Description

This studio-based course will enables students through design projects, to conceive, plan, specify and present complete product design outcomes. Students will develop their prior skills and knowledge in developing and presenting creative design concepts through sketching and illustration techniques, form development, model making and technical drawing. Typically, design projects in this studio will place an emphasis on understanding the quantitative aspects and application of materials to product design. This includes material performance characteristics, aesthetic properties and appropriateness of form, joining, and an exploration of product design possibilities. Students will gain a contextual understanding and appreciation of materials and design practices through, cultural, historical, technological and engineering perspectives.
