Description

Writing as Practice examines contemporary critical and creative writing. It looks at writing as an art practice, including experimental and conceptual poetry, language and text-based installation work and performance art. It also looks at critical and scholarly writing engaged with art, with an emphasis on new and emerging forms.

The course introduces students to writing in the contemporary digital context and will consider the possibilities for writing across multiple platforms. Students are introduced to different modes of experimental writing and will produce a variety of texts in response to, and as, contemporary art works. Students will also be exposed to local and international writing projects and publications and will have the opportunity to engage with artist-run initiatives.
