Description

Online Course

When did trade fairs evolve into innovative exhibition design? Why did 'flagship stores' replace the importance of shopping centres? When did chain hotels give way to boutique resorts? What are signature restaurants and concept stores?

The design of interiors, spaces or buildings relating to retail, hospitality and exhibition design has changed dramatically over the past 20 years.

In this fully online course you will investigate the influences and catalysts that contributed to these changes; compare a range of significant built projects - and their designers - from around the world; identify their impact; and explore examples within your own city and environment. Students can then apply this knowledge by exploring concepts and ideas for creating these types of spaces.

The course aims to attract students worldwide, and across a variety of design disciplines and faculties. Group and individual assignments will cover theoretical and practical components, and the online activities will encourage interdisciplinary discussion and interaction amongst the students.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students will receive log in instructions via their UNSW email account prior to the commencement of the course. This course is conducted via the Omnium system (omnium.edu.au).
