Description Mythical heroes and heroines in Greek tragedy are treated as human archetypes which are demythologised and brought down to earth. The tragedies generate universal truths and illuminate aspects of the human condition. Examines gender issues in five tragedies and gives students the opportunity to observe the consistency with which basic attitudes of men and women have endured through the centuries in western society.
