Description

Examines Greek theatre, cinema and music from the beginning of last century to the present. Analyses representative textual and audiovisual material representing the pastoral, folk, and urban modern and postmodern theatre, including demotic, symphonic, folk, pop and rock music as well as popular film productions since the 60s. Considers processes of cultural continuity and transformation with an emphasis on creative interpretation.


Learning Outcomes

In completing this course, students willl be able to:
  • Relate audiovisual and literary material to major events of Greek political history in the twentieth century
  • Locate major social issues related to ethnicity, gender, class and family dynamics
  • Understand ways in which the ancient past is incorporated in modern Greek art
  • Demonstrate and evaluate performance and creative writing skills.
