Description

Introduces some of the preoccupations of Australian Art in the years since colonisation. Issues include: the notion of the artist as a recorder in the 19th century and a tourist in the 20th; the search for a 'Great' Australian artist; national identitity and art; links between art and commerce; the idea of 'modern' in an Australian context; and attempts to place Australian art in an international context.
