Stream Outline

The Master of Architecture program provides professional education in the practice and theory of architecture. It requires full time attendance for two years. It is designed to deliver an architectural education appropriate to contemporary multidisiplinary professional practice.

The Program provides students with advanced knowledge and techniques in architectural design and related technical and academic knowledge. It prepares students to work in architecture and other design-based industries, and to operate at a professional level in the practice of Architecture. It also allows students to tailor their studies towards specific interests through the large range of elective offerings they may take within Built Environment.

Stream Structure

Core courses (54 UOC):
Core Electives (24 UOC):

Students must take 24 UOC from the following combinations, with a mixture of either:
  • 12 UOC from List A and 12 UOC from List B OR
  • 6 UOC from List A and 18 UOC from List B OR
  • 18 UOC from List A and 6 UOC from List B

Plus 18 UOC of BE Electives

A typical sequence to complete the degree in 2 years would be a follows:

Year 1

Semester 1
  • BE Elective (6 UOC)
  • BE Elective (6 UOC)

Year 1

Semester 2
  • Elective from List A/List B (6 UOC)

Year 2

Semester 1
  • Elective from List A/List B (6 UOC)
  • Elective from List A/List B (6 UOC)

Year 2

Semester 2
  • BE Elective (6 UOC)
  • Elective from List A/List B (6 UOC)
NOTE: Students commencing in semester 2 would follow the sequence outlined above, entering Semester 1/Year 2 in their second semester of study. The final semester of study would be the courses from Semester 1/Year 1.

NOTE: In the above sequence the order of the BE Electives and/or List A/List B courses can be re-arranged to better accommodate a students individual study plan. Check with the BE Student Centre if you plan to vary the typical sequence.
