Stream Outline
How do commercial organisations manage operational risks? This Master of Commerce specialisation examines the everyday risks in carrying out an organisation’s activities, through people, systems and processes, how to manage and mitigate those risks, and the challenges involved.
Stream Structure
Master of Commerce (MCom) students must complete:
- 2 MCom core courses
- 3 Gateway courses - made up of designated specialist core course/s depending on the specialisation chosen
- 6 Specialisation courses
- 1 Capstone course
Two Compulsory Core courses:
Choose 1 from 2 Data Analysis Courses:

Three Elective Specialisation courses from the following:

- FINS5530 Financial Institution Mgmt (6 UOC)
- FINS5531 Risk and Insurance (6 UOC)
- FINS5534 Credit Risk and Loan Policy (6 UOC)
- INFS5929 Managing IS / IT Risk (6 UOC)
- MGMT5707 Social Impact Field Project (6 UOC)
- MGMT6005 Govering Managing Org Risk (6 UOC)
- MGMT6006 Business and Security (6 UOC)
One Capstone course:
- COMM5010 Strategy,Mktg&Mgt (6 UOC)

If you choose to study the Master of Commerce (Extension) program 8417, you have the option to choose 4 courses (to provide you with depth of learning) from the following areas:
- Accounting
- Entity, Planning and Performance
- Finance
- Marketing
- Information Systems
- Business Law
- Taxation
- *General Option
* The General Option courses allow you to choose two courses from the MCom and optional two courses outside of the MCom (other programs within the UNSW Business School) or courses from other Faculties (with permission).
