Stream Outline
The Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics (program 5225, stream code LINGBS5225) aims to provide those who work or plan to work in a language-related area (teachers of English as a second or foreign language or of a language other than English, translators and interpreters, curriculum designers, and other language professionals) with a vocationally relevant degree which will enable them to refresh and upgrade their knowledge and skills.
Applicants require a relevant undergraduate degree (normally with specialisation in Linguistics, English, or another language), with preference given to applicants with relevant work experience.

Stream Structure
Students are required to complete six courses, one of which is the core course LING5026 The Structure of Language.

Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics in Japanese or Korean
Students can specialise in Japanese or Korean within the Applied Linguistics program. In order to fulfil the requirements for the Graduate Diploma, students are required to complete three LING courses from the list above plus three Japanese Studies or three Korean Studies courses from the following:

- JAPN5000 Special Project (6 UOC)
- JAPN5011 Japanese Teaching Practicum (6 UOC)
- KORE5006 Workshop in Teaching Korean (6 UOC)
- KORE5007 Insights into the Korean Lang (6 UOC)
- KORE5008 Korean Teaching Practicum (6 UOC)
Students are strongly advised to complete LING5000 Special Project (6 UOC) using Japanese or Korean data.
Admission Requirements
A recognised Bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification) in English, linguistics, languages or a related area.
