Description

This course offers advanced interdisciplinary study of the transformation of Australian military and security forces to meet new cyber security threats and to exploit new capabilities offered by cyber assets. This course provides analytical insights into a range of strategic, organisational and resource questions flowing from the main theme. Topics include: the cyber space revolution in military affairs; middle powers and their military cyber strategy; the politics of transformational change in the Australian Defence Force; national security innovation priorities; and proposals for an Australian cyber militia. The course will expose the main policy and ethical dilemmas associated with the preparation of Australian security forces for information warfare, at the same time as enabling students to develop an ability to undertake critical analysis of them. The course complements HASS courses on “Cyber Security and World Politics”, “Australian Cyberspace Diplomacy”, “Cyber security in Asia” and “Cyber Policy in China”.
