Description

This course offers analysis of the process of capability development and strategic procurement and strategic outsourcing , with special reference to the public sector. It may be expected that defence procurement will receive particular attention. Assessment may include a significant research-based component.

Learning Outcomes

By the conclusion of this course you should be able to:

1 understand and discuss the role of procurement as a strategic aspect of supply chain activity;

2 analyse and evaluate different procurement-focused organisational structures, policies, processes and procedures;

3 analyse and evaluate alternative make-or-buy and source selection strategies;

4 describe the mechanics of purchasing including requirements specification, offer
solicitation, evaluation and supplier selection;

5 analyse and discuss the relative advantages and disadvantages of different types of procurement contracts;

6 understand and discuss the role of contract management as a form of business risk mitigation;

7 discuss and understand the determinants of effective supplier relationship management;

8 describe the emergent forms of e-procurement and computer-mediated procurement information systems; and

9 discuss recent trends in procurement in the global economy.

You will be expected to demonstrate the achievement of these outcomes through the designated assessment tasks (see below). Also, you are expected to achieve them in accord with the codes of ethics and behaviour endorsed by the UNSW.
