Academic Rules for Bachelor of Information Systems (BIS) (3979)
To be awarded a degree at Pass level, the BIS must contain:
1. 144 units of credit (UoC).
2. A minimum of 96UoC of courses in Information Systems and Business.
3. 24UoC of Level 1 Business Core courses.
4. A sequence of 72UoC courses in the discipline of Information Systems, of which 18UoC must be at Level 3.
5. An additional 12UoC of Information Systems courses as the program is completed in “single mode”.
6. 12UoC of courses from outside the UNSW Business School to fulfill the University’s General Education requirement.
7. Maximum of 60UoC of Level 1 courses, excluding Level 1 courses completed as part of the General Education requirement.
Progression rules
1. A minimum of 24UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 2 courses.
2. A minimum of 72UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 3 courses.
To be awarded a degree at Pass level, the BIS (dual program) must contain:
1. A minimum of 180UoC of courses in Information Systems and Business.
2. 48UoC of Level 1 Business Core courses.
3. A sequence of 72UoC courses in the discipline of Information Systems, of which 18UoC must be at Level 3.
4. A sequence of 48UoC courses in an approved UNSW Business School major, of which 18UoC must be at level 3.
5. 12UoC of courses from outside the UNSW Business School to fulfill the University’s General Education requirement.
6. Maximum of 72UoC of Level 1 courses, excluding Level 1 courses completed as part of the General Education requirement.
Progression rules
1. A minimum of 24UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 2 courses.
2. A minimum of 72UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 3 courses.
Academic Rules for Bachelor of Information Systems (BIS (Co-op)) (3971)
To be awarded a degree at Honours level, the BIS (Co-op) must contain:
1. 192 units of credit (UoC).
2. A minimum of 180UoC of courses in Information Systems and Business.
3. 24UoC of Level 1 Business Core courses.
4. A sequence of 72UoC courses in the discipline of Information Systems, of which 18UoC must be Level 3.
5. 12UoC of courses from outside the UNSW Business School to fulfill the University’s General Education requirement.
6. Maximum of 60UoC of Level 1 courses, excluding Level 1 courses completed as part of the General Education requirement.
7. 36 UOC of Industrial Training Experience courses.
8. 48 UoC in honours year, consisting of 24UoC advanced INFS courses and 24UoC thesis.
Progression rules
1. A minimum of 24UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 2 courses.
2. A minimum of 72UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 3 courses.
• The 4th year of the BIS(Co-op) is an honours year.
• Honours may be completed in 3979 BIS by undertaking an additional year.
• The honours year in either program is 48UoC, comprised of prescribed INFS Courses plus a thesis component.
• It must be completed in two semesters following completion of the pass degree (BIS), or in two semesters after completing the 3rd year of the BIS(Co-op).
Eligibility:
• Minimum WAM of 70 in Information Systems courses and a program WAM of 70 at the end of the pass degree for the BIS or at the end of 3rd year for the BIS(Co-op). However please consult the SISTM Honours Program Coordinator to confirm eligibility.
• Application: expression of interest and written application submitted to the Head of School or Honours Coordinator in SISTM.
• Award: Class I, Class II Division 1, Class II Division II, Class III; if requirements for these classes are not met, a Pass degree will be awarded. For more information please refer to the Honours Program link on the SISTM webpage.
Other Rules:
• Transfer between degrees:
A student may request a transfer between UNSW programs through myUNSW. Please refer to the Internal Program Transfer Overview for further details.
• Credit for courses passed at another University:
Subject to the University rules governing admission with advanced standing, courses passed at another university may be counted towards fulfilling the requirements of the degree. Not more than fifty percent of the program requirements (or 50% of each program component if undertaking a dual degree) will be awarded as advanced standing nor will advanced standing be granted for courses completed more than 7 years before the date of admission of the applicant, except with the approval of the UNSW Business School Student Centre.

• ELISE (Enabling Library and Information Skills for Everyone):
All new students are required to complete and attain at least 80% in the ELISE online tutorial via the Library homepage.
