Academic Rules for Bachelor of Information Systems (BIS) Content of Program
To be awarded a degree at Pass level, the BIS must contain: 1. 144 units of credit (UoC). 2. A minimum of 96UoC of courses in Information Systems and Business. 3. 24UoC of Level 1 Business Core courses. 4. A sequence of 72UoC courses in the discipline of Information Systems, of which 18UoC must be at Level 3. 5. An additional 18UoC of Information systems courses if the program is completed in “stand-alone mode”. 6. 12UoC of courses from outside the ASB to fulfil the University’s General Education requirement. 7. Maximum of 60UoC of Level 1 courses, excluding Level 1 courses completed as part of the General Education requirement. Progression rules 8. A minimum of 24UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 2 courses. 9. A minimum of 72UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 3 courses. To be awarded a degree at Pass level, the BIS (dual program) must contain: 1. A minimum of 96UoC of courses in Information Systems and Business. 2. 24UoC of Level 1 Business Core courses. 3. A sequence of 72UoC courses in the discipline of Information Systems, of which 18UoC must be at Level 3. 4. Maximum of 60UoC of Level 1 courses. Progression rules 5. A minimum of 24UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 2 courses. 6. A minimum of 72UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 3 courses. To be awarded a degree at Pass level, the BIS (Co-op) must contain: 1. 192 units of credit (UoC). 2. A minimum of 168UoC of courses in Information Systems and Business. 3. 24UoC of Level 1 Business Core courses. 4. A sequence of 72UoC courses in the discipline of Information Systems, of which 18UoC must be at Level 3. 5. 12UoC of courses from outside the ASB to fulfil the University’s General Education requirement. 6. Maximum of 60UoC of Level 1 courses, excluding Level 1 courses completed as part of the General Education requirement. 7. 36 UOC of Industrial Training Experience courses. Progression rules 8. A minimum of 24UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 2 courses. 9. A minimum of 72UoC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 3 courses. General Rules Relating to Every Program Honours
• Additional year of 48UoC, comprised of prescribed INFS Courses plus a thesis component. • BIS (Co-op)(Hons) may be awarded on successful completion of 48UoC of prescribed Honours courses in Information Systems, completed within the 4th year of the BIS (Co-op) program. • Must be completed in two semesters following completion of the pass degree component • Eligibility: - minimum WAM of 70 in Information Systems of the Pass degree component. However please consult the SISTM Honours Program Coordinator to confirm eligibility. ; - pass all courses in the Pass degree component at the first attempt. • Application: expression of interest and written application submitted to the Head of School or Honours Coordinator in SISTM. • Award: Class I, Class II Division 1, Class II Division II, Class III; if requirements for these classes are not met, a Pass degree will be awarded. For more information please refer to the Honours Program link on the SISTM webpage. Other Rules: • Transfer between degrees A student may request a transfer between UNSW programs through myUNSW. Please refer to the Internal Program Transfer Overview for further details. • Credit for courses passed at another University subject to the University rules governing admission with advanced standing, courses passed at another university may be counted towards fulfilling the requirements of the degree. Not more than fifty percent of the program requirements will be awarded as advanced standing nor will advanced standing be granted for courses completed more than 7 years before the date of admission of the applicant, except with the approval of the Australian School of Business Student Centre. • University rules All students are governed by General University Rules regarding admission, enrolment, fees, progression, IT Rules and Procedures and other policies. These can be found in the Online Handbook. • ELISE (Enabling Library and Information Skills for Everyone) All new students are required to complete and attain at least 80% in the ELISE online tutorial via the Library homepage.
